Uptown Dallas, Inc., responsible for managing the public improvement of the Uptown district, has broken ground on a new playground in Griggs Park. The new playground, located on the southeast side of the park, will feature modern equipment and a colorful adventure for children. Set to open by the end of the year, local residents are thrilled with the addition.

“We are always excited when the neighborhood adds outdoor amenities,” said Danika Mendrygal, local resident, nonprofit attorney, and mother of two. “The addition of the playground to Griggs Park will support a sense of community by allowing local families to connect with each other in an extension of their own backyards.”

With donations from significant donors like Hillcrest Foundation, Baylor Medical Center at Uptown, and The Theodore and Beulah Beasley Foundation, Inc., Uptown will soon have a stunning, completed vista. Made up of 8-acres, Griggs Park is unlike any other with photographic views of the downtown skyline, park benches, a paved path for strolling, lush green grass and trees for picnicking with Fido, and a half-court basketball court donated by the Mavs Foundation.

The playground will be made up of two areas with different age ranges in mind. The first area has been designed for children 3-5 years of age, while the second area will accommodate play for children 6-12 years old. Landscape Structures, from which the equipment was purchased, will include swings, a slide and climbing structures.

“It has been our vision for many years to incorporate more family-friendly amenities in Uptown” said Katy Slade, Chairman of the Board for Uptown Dallas, Inc. “85% of millennials prefer to live an urban lifestyle. They want to start families, but also want to balance that with being part of a vibrant, active city. They want to walk to the grocery store and to the park. With the addition of the Griggs Park playground, Uptown is truly a live, work, play neighborhood for all ages.”

Uptown Dallas, Inc. has hired Henneberger Construction Company and is working closely with the City of Dallas and landscape consultants to complete the project which is slated for completion in November, or early December of 2016.
