ON OCTOBER 4TH THE UPTOWN COMMUNITY WILL COME TOGETHER IN CELEBRATION OF PUBLIC SAFETY AND GIVING BACK.
Uptown Dallas Inc. (UDI), the management company responsible for the districts public improvement, is having a block party in celebration of National Night Out on Tuesday, October 4th from 6-10 PM. The free event will take place in Griggs Park and include special guest appearances, a check presentation from the Uptown Hospitality Association (UHA) and a concert featuring the 80’s cover band The Spazmatics. In the spirit of giving back, UDI has also assembled teams for a friendly canned food drive and art installation competition. The installations will be constructed and on display at the event where a winner will be chosen. All canned food will be donated to the North Texas Food Bank.
National Night Out was created to bring communities together and raise awareness for public safety initiatives and Dallas’ Uptown district is doing just that with expected attendance from Dallas Police Officers, Dallas Fire and Rescue, Mavs ManiAACs, Dancers, and more. A tribute to Dallas Police Officers and service men/women will be an important item on the night’s agenda.
“National Night Out has caught on in popularity and rightfully so,” said Katy Slade, Uptown’s Chairman of the Board. “Bringing the Uptown community together to show respect and support for our public safety officers while also giving back is important for us and the city of Dallas; and it’s a chance to have some fun.”
Uptown Dallas, Inc. is known for its significant work making the Uptown district thrive through capital improvement projects, maintenance, and public safety efforts. In addition, UDI hosts many community engagement opportunities including quarterly networking events and coffee with cops.
“We enjoy coming together for these events that promote community and getting to know one another,” said long time Uptown resident and State Thomas Area Resident (STAR) member, Kay Irwin. “The State Thomas Neighborhood is excited to participate in the canned food drive and we do expect to win the art display this inaugural year.”
Music will begin at 6:00 PM with local country artist Jon Christopher Davis. Food will be provided by Katy Trail Ice House and glow games will be included in the fun thanks to Post Properties. Teams for the canned food display contest include: Baylor Medical Center at Uptown and North Central Hospital, Dallas Mavericks, Dear Clark Salon, The HeARTS of Maya, State Thomas Area Residents (STAR), Trammell Crow Company, Uptown Hospitality Association (UHA), and West Village.
