Uptown Dallas, Inc. the district’s public improvement company, was presented with a $50,000 donation from the neighborhood’s Uptown Hospitality Association (UHA) during the National Night Out event yesterday, October 4th. The organization will put the money towards the district’s public safety efforts including the addition of off-duty police officers and a potential safety ambassador program the company has been developing.
UHA represents some of Uptown’s most popular entertainment hot spots, who have come together for the betterment of Uptown through public improvement projects, including improving the safety for its residents, patrons and business owners.
“We want to let everyone know that we are in this together,” said UHA President and property owner Feargal McKinney. “When our establishments are safe and abiding by respectable levels for the community and by city law, it is better for everyone.”
“We are making progress,” said Detective Albert Sanchez of the Dallas Police Department. “Uptown is the most sought after district and it is growing at an incredible rate. When residents and great organizations like Uptown Dallas Inc., the Uptown Hospitality Association, and the Dallas Police Department come together, good things happen.”
Uptown Dallas Inc., along with Dallas City Councilman Philp Kingston and Uptown Public Safety Consultant and Dallas Police Detective Albert Sanchez developed a program, known as the Rover Initiative, which has been in place since Fall 2015 and employs off-duty DPD officers to enforce and control public safety during peak hours. UHA has proactively joined the efforts to ensure community cohesiveness.
“The Rover Program has proven highly popular among Uptown residents, visitors, and responsible bar owners,” said Katy Slade, Chairman of Uptown Board. “This significant and meaningful contribution to maintaining law and order will go along way.”
Both organizations, UHA and UDI, along with Councilman Kingston, are working diligently to communicate and put forth structure for the betterment of the Uptown neighborhood.
