Uptown Dallas, Inc. (UDI), the management group of the Uptown Public Improvement District, hosted its annual meeting on Thursday, June 1 at The Crescent Club. The meeting included guest speaker, Christopher Leinberger and an overview of UDI’s many accomplishments over the past year. Uptown Dallas, Inc. also used the annual meeting to recognize and award members of the Uptown community who have shown exceptional leadership, advocacy and contributions to the Uptown District.
There’s no shortage of positive progress happening in the Uptown District. The company showed research documenting the past year’s growth. Commercial value is now up to $1.6 Billion, a 45% growth. Total property value is $5.5 Billion, an 8% growth. Uptown’s population is up by 1% with 19,000 residents. The age range of 0-4 years old is up 4% from last year; proving Uptown a desirable neighborhood for families.
Katy Slade, Chairman of the Uptown Dallas, Inc. Board of Directors said, “Planning for the future of Uptown is imperative and we’ve taken notice of such growth. It’s a joy to see families walking the neighborhood and children playing on the newly installed playground in Griggs Park.”
Uptown Dallas, Inc. also announced the introduction of a new clean streets program that began in mid-2016 and has proven to be a success. The 3-person team is responsible for removing graffiti, sweeping streets and already picked up more than 140,000 gallons of trash in the past year. The team also functions as ambassadors to the Uptown District making contacts with business owners and residents, while serving as additional pairs of eyes and ears for the neighborhood.
“Walkable Urbanism” a phrase coined by the evening’s special guest speaker and metropolitan land use strategist, Christopher Leinberger said, “Uptown is becoming the national model for downtown adjacent walkups. For the property owners of Uptown, you’re in a very good place and it will only get better.”
The awards portion of the night highlighted three individuals, honoring their successful and innovative contributions to Uptown. The Pioneer Award was presented to Caroline Rose Hunt, the American Heiress, Hotelier, Philanthropist, and founder of Rosewood Hotels & Resorts, which includes The Crescent. Phil Cobb, Co-Founder of the McKinney Avenue Trolley was presented with the Uptown Influencer Award. Paula Peters, an Uptown resident who has spent countless hours serving and volunteering with nonprofit organizations and groups within Uptown and the City of Dallas, was presented with the Chairman’s Award.
